Goals & Programs

  • Help immigrants achieve greater self-sufficiency and confidence.
  • Foster cross-cultural relationships through volunteerism (400 volunteers a year) and grassroots outreach.
  • Create a more accepting, integrated community in which all members feel comfortable and effectively contribute.
  • Build social capital by bringing people together to learn from each other and advance together.

Intercambio Programs

English Classes

Affordable classes for adult immigrants taught by volunteers at students' homes, nonprofit agencies, and public buildings. For more information on volunteering, read our Volunteer Information page.

Intercambio & Schools Together Program

Currently operating in several schools in Boulder County, this program matches English-learning parents with native English-speaking parents. Contact Maria (maria@intercambioweb.org) for more information.

Special Topic Classes & Resource Workshops

Computer Classes: Six-week sessions on topics in computer literacy, such as how to set up email accounts, how to navigate the internet, and how to use Excel.

Financial Literacy Course: A six-week Financial Literacy Course that develops skills in managing money, opening bank accounts, interpreting financial information, and managing credit.

English for Entrepreneurs: A multi-week class taught by local business leaders which focuses on English skills related to starting a business, obtaining loans, managing a successful business and leadership skills.

Citizenship Classes

Intercambio collaborates with the Boulder Public Library, the Lafayette Library, and Casa de la Esperanza to offer citizenship classes to immigrants to help prepare them to take and pass the citizenship exam. Contact Maria (maria@intercambioweb.org) for more information.

Building Cultural Awareness Trainings

In this interactive workshop we discuss types of culture, how we interpret cultural behaviors, and specific examples of differences. The duration of the training is 1 to 2 hours. The cost is $0, but donations to Intercambio are accepted and appreciated. We offer this workshop to nonprofit boards and staff, clubs, and to other organizations upon request.
