Volunteer Training
The key to any successful ELL program that uses volunteer teachers is the initial volunteer training. Intercambio's training is extremely practical and allows volunteers who come with or without experience to leave feeling equipped with the skills, materials and confidence necessary to be great English teachers.
The training was developed by condensing 120 hours of ELL teacher training into 6 practical hours, which can be broken up into two or three sessions. Since 2001 Intercambio has trained 3,500 volunteers and made constant improvements to the training according to volunteer feedback. Agencies that purchase the volunteer training will receive the facilitator's guide with comprehensive notes for leading the training as well as 50 pages of handouts to put into a binder for volunteers. There is also a training video available for free so you can observe portions of the training.
